Magnificent Angkor Wat temples!
*explore explore explore* :DA-must-visit temples in Siem Reap, at least ONCE in your lifetime in experiencing and exploring these Asian historical architectures. Ancient. Culture. Historical. Amazing. Stunning. Beautiful.
Ta Phrohm (must visit)
The so called "jungle temple" where you can see enormous trees growing side by side or on top of the temple walls. The age of this temple clearly shown by the size of all the trees in around the temple and I would say that this atmospheric temple is a favourite for many!
One of the 12 main temples in Siem Reap, you can visit Ta Phrohm any time of the day and do visit earlier in the morning to avoid massive crowd. This temple has been mostly untouched and left to nature. Oh yea, this is the place where famous movies like Tomb Raider, Indiana Jones and Lara Croft were filmed. :))
Restoration of the temple. Thank God I managed to visit the "original" temples before the temples are all "renewed" by its new look.
Super hot weather. Remember to bring an umbrella and wet tissues!
Gigantic tree
Strategic location to take a good picture.
Second a-must-visit temple. Angkor Wat (largest religious structure on Earth, nearly 900 years after it was built)
For those who plans to take a tour to the top level of Angkor Wat (most sacred shrine), prepare to pack a set of appropriate attire (long pants- knee length and also a sleeve top- as long as it covered shoulder) as a respect to the religious site. Also, sufficient water and wearing suitable shoes are essential as some of the distances, stairs (especially those super steep stairs) and intense heat proved to be challenges..
Knowing that Cambodia weather is hot all year long, the clever me did not pack any long pants or sleeve tops with me. Had no choice but to get a Cambodia pants to visit Angkor Wat!
Like AliBaba pants only..
Shot by iPhone 4. :D
So beautiful...
The first three towers at the entrance.
Got no choice but to put my scarf around to cover my shoulder in this SIZZLING HOT WEATHER!
*sigh*
*sigh*
Stunning scenery
The library in both left and right side of the temple.
Cant stand the hotness anymore. No clouds. No rains.
Our tourguide told us that the day we visited Angkor Wat is the HOTTEST DAY of the year in Cambodia. GOSH! Look at the sky, no clouds at all and I was pretty roasted.
Reconstruction ruins the scenery.
Library again.
Sacred Khmer women, called by the Sanskrit terms devata and asparas are preserved in Bakan (top level of Angkor Wat)
:D
Ahhh. Unlucky us! The top level of Angkor Wat was CLOSED!! Grrrr!
Top level of Angkor Wat called the "Bakan" in Khmer language. This area enshrines hundreds of lifelike portraits of Khmer goddesses, known by the Sanskrit terms apsaras or devata.
Clear blue sky....
With our English speaking tour guide!
Look at the sun...
HOT! I was melting..
Closed for cleaning. Zzzz.
Thank God they had constructed new wooden staircases, benches and handrails for us to climb up there! Or else, its not that easy to get up there and many would have fallen to death because of the steep 90 degree stairs to Bakan.. I will surrender myself first. Am afraid that I might not be able to get down by myself. LOL.
Resting and camwhoring.
Crazy stairs!
Like this pic a lot. :))
Another top spot to grab a picture for memory in here!
Very very breathtaking view! Lurve this pic alot!
Went back to Angkor Wat the next day for Bakan.
Its opened! :D
Long queue..
Welcome to Bakan, the principal sanctuary of Angkor Wat..
My only top with sleeve.. Aint match the AliBaba pants at all.. No choice..
View from the top. *scared*
Even with wooden stairs.. still scared of falling down. >.<
Sun sun, pls go away..
Taken by my iPhone 4. Overwhelming scenery! *ignore the restoration work in there*
Spacious ground
Next visit. Sunset at Bakheng Hill
Located on top of a hill, this place became one of the hot spot for tourist to view sunset! Be there earlier, say around 4-5pm to get a good place. Many walking and climbing to do! Trekking takes about half an hour and when you arrived at the temple, you gotta climb up from the steep stairs to reach the top! Like PHEW...
Phnom Bakheng
Finally, WE'RE ON TOP! Phew. Many steep stairs to climb on..
Massive crowd!
The place was filled by tourists!
For you (sunset), we waited for it and its worth it. :)
